About EFSU and GP Federations
The Eastern Federation Support Unit (FSU) is instrumental in aiding GP Federations, including the Ards Federation of Practices. Guided by the strategic frameworks set out in the Bengoa Reports “Systems Not Structures: Changing Health and Social Care” and “Delivering Together—Health and Social Care 2026,” the Eastern FSU focuses on enhancing healthcare delivery by supporting and empowering networks of health and social care providers.
Understanding GP Federations
GP Federations are collaborative groups of GP practices designed to address capacity and workload challenges within general practice. These federations allow individual practices to maintain their uniqueness while benefiting from being part of a larger, NHS-funded organisation. This collaborative approach enhances primary care services and alleviates pressure on secondary care.
Core Purpose
The primary aim of the Eastern FSU is to enable clinicians to concentrate on delivering optimal clinical outcomes, thereby enhancing patient care quality. The unit provides centralised management, planning, accounting, communication, corporate governance, human resources, and other essential services.
